About

In the Spring of 2005, American Group Management was born from the idea that we could help represent Olympic hopefuls heading into the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy when our first client hired us, Natalie Darwitz (alongside Kelly Stephens-Tysland) who was referred to our founder Brant Feldman by U.S. WNT Team Captain and her teammate, Cammi Granato. Natalie at the time was a 2-time NCAA National Champion at the University of Minnesota who was working part-time for a NHL representation firm in the Twin Cities and they had no interest in representing her in women’s hockey because their was no business model that made sense to try and help her.

Brant worked the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games for the official clothing supplier of Team USA, Team Canada and Team GB, Roots Canada and was able to understand that their was an ecosystem for athletes to tap into beyond the Games, but it would take a dedicated effort to find those opportunities from endemic brands to a particular sport as well as outside partners who would like to use Olympians (& subsequently Paralympians), Men’s & Women’s National Team athletes and alumni to help deliver campaign results, appearances and brand partnerships.

The business model included being able to represent these athletes in a similar manner to what Brant had seen given by his mentor Pat Brisson and his late business partner, Tom Reich with their players which was first class no matter in their case if a player was in major junior, graduating from the NCAA, the minor leagues or the NHL / European Pro Leagues. This was going to be a key DIFFERENTIATION that what was seen for Olympic & Paralympic athletes that they could be seen in the manner that they should be and that as the elite athletes that they are in whatever sport they played we would do what we could using the resources that we have access to and reach out to those who may want to help.

Our philosophy has been to also be help all of our athletes to begin to think about their POST-ATHLETIC CAREER and doing this while they are still playing as they are meeting decision makers, media contacts and other business influencers who might help them with their future journey. We have been instrumental in advocating for our clients to join board of directors, Presidential Commissions & Delegations, advisory units, international & national federation athletes commissions within their respective sport disciplines and finding broadcast opportunities where they can lend their expertise to the audiences that are also watching their sports.

Now in our 20th year, AGM has now represented athletes in 18 Olympic & Paralympic sports as well as professionals in the National Women’s Soccer League and the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Our alumni have been able to thrive and have continued to lead within their respective sports from technology development to research and development of sport performance to coaching to broadcast to a NHL Member Club in their Hockey Operations. We have been able to have our clients receive mentoring sessions (at-office) from the Los Angeles Kings & Washington Capitals alongside the National Hockey League to allow for them to start to learn the best business practices and launch future careers.

In the first 3 seasons of the PWHL, we had the first signed player in League history (Kelly Pannek), the first signed player in Minnesota, Ottawa and Toronto team history, the highest paid Defender (Renata Fast) in League history and the highest single-season paid player (Emily Clark) in League history. At the same time, we have had a track record helping non-drafted players make it on to squads and guide players through the draft & training camp agreements and prepare for their long term future.

Our clients, current and former, have had historical careers (including Olympic & Paralympic medals, World Championships, World Cups, World & American Records, Sport & Collegiate Hall of Fames, professional sports championships, season ending awards, Women’s Sports Foundation, ESPYS, LAUREUS as well as Emmy Awards) that we are proud to have helped lend a hand off the field sometimes with lawyers working on athletes’ rights issues including the 2017 U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team strike for gender equitable treatment, advising athletes on national team issues, finding medical specialists as well as sports equipment solutions that have seemed remote (from bobsleds to carbon fiber bikes).

It has all been a part of this and we have always wanted to be a part of the greater good to help all regardless if we represent the athlete or not, how do we make sport a better place and helping to level the playing field for Olympic, Paralympic or through gender along side issues related to the Collective Bargaining Agreements in clients respective sports.
