Maddie Rooney gives keynote speech to State of New Mexico Parks and Recreation Association
October 14, 2026 — Hobbs, NM —
Maddie Rooney was the keynote speaker at the 2026 New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association’s State Conference delivering a keynote address that was titled THE SAVE YOU DON’T SEE - How Connection, Community & Opportunity Shaped My Life. The speech tied in her life as an athlete, but also that of a hockey camp operator to the recreation and parks community who delivers services to the residents of the state in a 24/7, 365 basis. The theme of the NMPRA event was “FUELING CONNECTIONS THROUGH PARKS and RECREATION”. The speech and her appearance included a VIP reception and cocktail party over the multi-day conference.
Doug McDaniel - President of the New Mexico Parks and Recreation Association added in a note after the speech:
Maddie was a superstar! EVERYONE enjoyed getting to meet her, getting a picture and an autograph. She was so gracious and generous with her time. Her keynote address was exceptional, and she did a great job of tying it back into parks and recreation.
If you were not aware, our Mayor was at the Awards Dinner and had a proclamation declaring that day, Thursday, October 14, as Maddie Rooney Day in Hobbs, New Mexico.
We were all aware of Maddie's athletic ability, but when we got to know Maddie, the person, we discovered that she is just a really good person, and fun to be around. We all enjoyed getting to meet Carson, too. The same can be said about him.
