U.S. Winter Paralympian Sydney Peterson makes SPORT DEBUT in Para Triathlon in Chile

July 5, 2026 — Antofagasta, Chile —

Seven-Time Winter Paralympic medalist, Sydney Peterson, made her Para Triathlon debut at the 2026 Americas Triathlon and Para Championships. The event which saw 16 members of Team USA men and women find the podium, had Sydney join this group with her F1RST Gold medal in this inaugural event for her.

At this event, Sydney was designated by World Triathlon and PT - Para Triathlon S - Standing 2 - her functional classification for all future races on the road to Los Angeles 2028 Summer Paralympic Games.

The race had a 21.6 km Bike ride, 5 km Run and 750 m Open Water Swim in the Pacific Ocean.

Antofagasta is a 2 hour flight from Santiago.
