Makenna Webster makes USWNT debut in New Zealand

After the 2025 NCAA Field Hockey season, Makenna was faced with an insanely hard life decision, join the New York Sirens for one season and then rejoin USA Field Hockey following it for the next 2 years or join USA Field Hockey right now and then defer the opportunity to the team that drafted her with the first pick in the 3rd round (17th overall) of the 2025 PWHL Entry Draft in Ottawa.

Makenna chose to join USA Field Hockey now and see where this adventure would take her with her goal of trying to make the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team that will be hosted in the United States for the first time since Atlanta 1996. If she makes it or does not make it, Makenna’s dream of wearing USA across her jersey in the Olympic Games has been something that she has had as a kid whether that be ice hockey or field hockey. Makenna’s plan will, be to return to the New York Sirens after LA 2028 if she is fortunate enough to make the U.S. Olympic Team or should she be cut by USA Field Hockey in the lead up at that time to come to try out for the PWHL team.

The 3 nations tournament in Dunedin, New Zealand will be the first time officially that Makenna will play for the U.S. WNT on the senior level team. The U.S. will face off vs host New Zealand and Japan. For scheduling purposes, a second New Zealand team will be in the event. The tournament will be live-streamed by the host New Zealand Black Ferns Hockey federation. The event begins on January 21-25, 2026.
