Semifinals 1 - Team USA vs Team Sweden with history 20 years in the making

February 16, 2026 at Milano Cortina 2026, twenty years later a rematch that could only happen in Italy, 90 miles away from Palasport Olimipco Torino will take place between the 1 seed, the United States of America vs the upstart Team Sweden who upset Team Czechia in the Quarterfinals of the Women’s Hockey Tournament. Team USA took care of host nation Italy in their quarterfinal match.

Twenty Years Ago, Team Sweden upset the United States in the semifinal round and then went on to face Canada for Gold. The United States of America faced off with Finland and won the Bronze medal. That game in Torino is the only loss that the U.S. has ever had in the semifinal stage of the tournament. This game went to a shootout and Sweden came out on top.

Sweden has never made the semifinals of the Winter Olympics again. Will history repeat itself or will Team USA avenge the worst Olympic loss in the program’s history. We will know this afternoon.
